Acrylic on Canvas, 36x48
This work titled “Garden Respite” showcases a black woman, partially hidden in a lush garden of her own creation where her head and gold streaked crown of hair are the only things showing through the abundant leaves and oversized florals. She looks out and is content in the knowledge she is safe in her garden and can venture back to it when she needs relief from the rest of the world. The intense hues of pink represent her own as well as the collective feminine energy of black women that is prolific and easily cultivated when given the space to breath and rest. While the bold and bright greens represent the renewal that is present when we allow ourselves to indulge in things that make us feel safe and whole again. This piece is a love letter to the women who need time to themselves to recharge in order to be able to give their full love, energy and gifts to who and what needs them most.
